IPL2021: M-46 || Mumbai Vs Delhi—Capitals Gives Heart-Break To Champions !!

“Delhi Capitals Wins By 04 Wickets- Heartbreak For Mumbai Indians !!”

Another heart-break for Mumbai Indians. The defending champions suffered a major setback once again & falls short. This season, things are just not clicking for this champion side- especially the UAE leg. This was match-46 of “Indian Premier League” & a must win game for the defensing champions . Team was looking to gain winning momentum, but misfortune added insult to injury & Mumbai once again found themselves on the loosing end. Delhi Capitals, on the other end are well sorted. Capitals already qualified for playoffs & were playing to seal their spot in top two places of the points table. After a win in this match, Capitals cemented their place in the top two of the points table.

Team Changes: →

Delhi Capitals: (DC)

Delhi Capitals — one of the most sorted team of this season, made only one change & actually it was not a change. Prithvi Shaw, their super striker up the order got fit for this match & returned to the team. Marcus Stoinis is still not available, now it’s a concern & Capitals need to find another finisher going ahead in the playoffs. So, Capitals made only one change to the team.

Mumbai Indians: (MI)

Mumbai Indians made one very right change to the team & it was expected. Against a team flooded with left-handed batsmen, a judicious choice for the game was — “Jayant Yadav” & that’s the only change Mumbai made for this fixture.

Mumbai’s middle order has been a real big problem for them in this season. After consistent failures, it was expected that Mumbai Indians might bring in “Chris Lynn”,replacing Surya Kumar Yadav. But “S.K.Y.” was fortunate that team still shown a lot of belief in him & gave one more opportunity. So, Mumbai Indians also made only a single change to the team.

Mumbai’s Batting Voes Continued…. Lady Luck With Capitals

In this high octane contest of two heavy-weights, Rishabh Pant won the toss & invited Mumbai indians to bat — not an ideal situation for Mumbai Indians. It was always a contest between — “Mumbai Batting Vs Delhi Bowling”. For the defending champions — Mumbai, batting has let them down time & time again. Now, it was a real test of this champion team, how they go about their business against one of the most sharp bowling attack in the league.

The way skipper Rohit Sharma commenced the Mumbai innings with a fierce boundary, it looked Mumbai will go all guns blazing. But, after a set of few dot balls Rohit attempted a big shot & became the first victim of “Avesh Khan”- another promising asset for the future. Big Blow To Mumbai indians !!

The next batsman coming was — “Surya Kumar Yadav — (S.K.Y.)”. This was possibly his very last opportunity to showcase his skills. Mumbai Indians pursued with him & surprisingly, it paid off. SKY looked in good touch from the ball one. He was stroking the ball well, timing was good & boundaries were coming from his bat. Just when he was gaining grounds- became the victim of Axar Patel. Surya’s score of 33 runs was the highest score of the Mumbai innings, this sums up the story.

The supremo of Mumbai Indians line-up — “Kieron Pollard” was very unfortunate, the way he got out. Everything was falling in place for Delhi Capitals & nothing for Mumbai Indians. It was enough to convince that Capitals were riding the “Lady Luck”. Delhi’s trio — “Avesh-Axar-Ashwin” never allowed the defending champions to took off.

Mumbai kept loosing wickets at regular intervals & couldn’t build any of their partnerships. “Axar Patel” was the pick of the bowlers for Delhi Capitals & Mumbai was limited to 129 runs. Thanks to a small cameo by Jayant Yadav(11) towards the end of the innings. MI — 129/8 (20.0 Overs)

Mumbai Bowlers Were Brilliant…..Made a Match Out of it

This was not even a mediocre score & Delhi Capitals must have thought, it to be a cakewalk for them. But, hats-off to Mumbai Indians bowlers, who made a match out of it. Be it — Jasprit Bumrah, Trent Boult,Nathan Coulternile or Jayant Yadav, every bowler bowled their heart-out.

Delhi Capitals had a real hard time with the bat. Bowlers stem the flow of runs, built pressure &kept taking wickets at regular intervals.A bowler needs to be mention separately here & that’s — “Jayant Yadav”, playing his first game of the season & performing both with the bat & ball in such high pressure situation, takes some skill. Well done MI bowlers !!

Capitals Middle-Order Exposed — Shreyas Iyer Took Capitals Home

For the very first time this season, Capitals batting been exposed. Openers were sent early by the Mumbai bowlers. Capitals lost three big wickets inside the power-play, which includes a brilliant run-out from — “Pollard”. Now, the middle order was exposed & it crumbled. While chasing such an average target,Delhi Capitals lost six wickets at regular intervals.

It was the mature innings of Shreyas Iyer(33*), that took the team home. In the end that innings of Iyer proved to be the difference between the two teams. This match has definitely exposed the loop holes of this team & it’s a wake-up call for Delhi Capitals,moving ahead in playoffs.

Turning Point…..Where Mumbai Indians Lost The Match !!

It’s easy to depict that- a very average score on the board was the sole reason for Mumbai Indians excruciating loss in this game. Few might say — “Match winning innings of Shreyas Iyer”. But,it was not….

Now what i’m about to share with you, that might surprise many. Even few of you may have disagreements. But, that’s fine. I’m just putting my perspective here.The turning point of the match, where Mumbai lost the game was in the first innings when they were batting.

It was the over number — 16 & 17, when Mumbai lost their both the finishers — “Kieron Pollard & Hardik Pandya” in the most unfortunate manner. In these two overs only “one run” was scored & then, team found themselves — “out of gas” !! This was the very moment or an event which turn the tide in Delhi Capitals favor & Mumbai Indians lost the game.

Final Verdict: →

Pretty Simple !! Delhi Capitals with this need is sitting comfortably at second spot in the league &they have already qualified, so no problems for them. But all the drama is with the defending champions.

With this loss, defending champions put themselves in a real tricky situation. For them, the equation is not that simple anymore. First of all,it’s a must win games for Mumbai Indians. MI have to win both the remaining fixtures — against Rajasthan Royals & Sunrisers Hyderabad. Even, this will not help them to straight away qualify for the playoffs.

Mumbai Indians is a part of mid-muddle in the points table & fighting for that fourth spot in the playoffs with — Kolkata Knight Riders,Punjab Kings & Rajasthan Royals. Even if, Mumbai wins their both the fixtures, they have to pray KKR must loose one of it’s game & that will make MI through to the playoffs, without “Net Run Rate” ditcher. Otherwise…….???

Mumbai Indians must play the brand of fearless cricket, for which they’re known for. The very same statement,disappointed skipper of Mumbai Indians — “Rohit Sharma” gave in the post-match presentation. I hope to see the fearless & dominating Mumbai Indians in their remaining two fixtures. Who knows they may stun everyone, by qualifying for “Playoffs” ? Alas !!!

FINAL SCORE-LINE: →

MI — 129/8 (20.0 Overs) || DC- 132/6 (19.1 Overs)

Player of The Match — “Axar Patel”
